8-10th June 2020, waiting the Mistral stop

The Mistral is still blowing after 10 days no stop. We wished to sail to Corsica but the sea conditions were not so nice.

So we moved to Porquerolles in order to visit by bike that island waiting the Mistral to slow down a bit.



...and we have been welcomed by a crazy nice Pirate that is sailing aboard his canoe-sail all around the Med.



We discovered  that he's Italian , from a small village south of Rome and from there he started his cruise 8 months ago but not alone...with his faithful dog that was so sea seek to push the Pirate to transform his canoe into a sailing canoe !



The Mistral is still blowing...those clouds tell us to wait .



And the first rain came after some while...

For the last stage of 2021 two superlative visits: - Palos (Spain) , place of preparation of the 3 caravels and departure point of the Greatest Expedition of Cristoforo Colombo; - Ria Formosa (Faro-Portugal) , the Heaven on earth for anchorage; Palos  is located on the left bank of the Tinto River estuary where it joins the Odiel River. August 2020 - Sardinia West and South coast

The west coast of Sardinia is a savage coast, often difficult to navigate when the strong mistral blows and without many shelters.  We left Asinara after a great moon night. These are our suggested spots: 1. Fornelli passage 2. Grotta di Venere 3.  Capo Caccia 4. Port Conte 5. Alghero 6. Bosa Marina 7. Mal di Ventre island 8. Cala Domestica 9. Porto Flavia e Pan di zucchero 10. Carloforte island 11. Porto Scudo 12. Porto Giunco 13. Villasimius 1. First nice passage from Asinara island is the Fornelli ; one mile long and less than 80 meters wide with an average of 5 meters shallow waters. Westward follow 301° dromes alignment, eastward 72° alignment. 2. The Grotta di Venere , is a cave reachable only by land climbing down 650 steps. By sea you just can approach it but anchoring is not allowed. 3.  Capo Caccia  is the  culmination of  an impressive  15 miles long cliff up to 400m high.   4. August 2021 - Entering into the Atlantic ocean and first surprises!

 Gibraltar is a particularly touristic place for its tax-free products, architecturally it does not present great interest ..... Except for this: Gibraltar is the only place in the world  where  the airport runway is open to pedestrians and car traffic ! ... but in the 7 days of rest waiting for the favorable wind to push us towards the Atlantic Ocean we were able to have two interesting experiences. One is the phenomenon of currents influenced by the difference in density and salinity of the Atlantic compared to the Mediterranean sea. The second less sympathetic but still linked to the world of the sea is an exponential increase in attacks by Orcas  against sailing boats. Currents through the Strait of Gibraltar are mainly caused by an exchange of water of different salinity (saltiness) between the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
